Day 1 : Bangkok / Ayuthaya / Sukothai ( L )
The Northern Thailand Private Tour & Golden Triangle starts from your hotel in Bangkok, where your guide and driver will pick you up after breakfast. We leave Bangkok in a northern direction for the former Siamese Capital Ayutthaya. The Historic City of Ayutthaya, founded in 1350, was the second capital of the Siamese Kingdom. It flourished from the 14th to the 18th centuries, during which time it grew to be one of the world’s largest and most cosmopolitan urban areas and a centre of global diplomacy and commerce. Ayutthaya was strategically located on an island surrounded by three rivers connecting the city to the sea. This site was chosen because it was located above the tidal bore of the Gulf of Siam as it existed at that time, thus preventing attack of the city by the sea-going warships of other nations. The location also helped to protect the city from seasonal flooding. You will visit Wat Sri Sampeht, followed by lunch at a local restaurant, before continuing to Sukothai, the first Capital of Siam.
Overnight at Sukothai.

Day 2 : Sukothai / Chiang Mai ( B, L )
After breakfast, you will visit the historical town of Sukothai with its ruins dating back to the 13th Century by bicycle. We visit Wat Mahatat, the former Royal Temple and Wat Sri Chum with the 14-meter-high sitting Buddha Statue.
Wat Mahathat or Mahathat Temple is the most important and impressive temple in Sukhothai Historical Park. The temple’s name translates to ‘temple of the great relic’. The temple was founded by Sri Indraditya, between 1292 and 1347 as the main temple of the city as well as the Sukhothai Kingdom. The design is based on a mandala, representing the universe, with a principal stupa, built in 1345 to enshrine relics of the Buddha, surrounded by smaller stupas in eight directions. The main stupa has the shape of a lotus bud, which characterizes Sukhothai architectural arts. Its base is adorned with 168 stuccoed sculptings of Buddhist disciples walking with their hands clasped together in salutation. The eight smaller stupas, of which the four at the corners are in Mon Haripunchai – Lanna style and the four in between, show Khmer influence. At both sides of the main stupa has two nine-metre-tall (30 ft) standing Buddha images called Phra Attharot. The temple also includes an assembly hall (Vihara), and 200 subordinate stupas.
After lunch at a local restaurant, we arrive in Chiang Mai in the late afternoon.
Overnight at Chiang Mai.

Day 3 : Chiang Mai / Wat Doi Suthep Temple ( B, L )
After breakfast, we drive up the Suthep Mountain of Chiang Mai and visit the spectacular Wat Doi Suthep Temple with its golden Chedi.
The Wat Phra That Doi Suthep Temple is considered one of the holiest Buddhist sites in Northern Thailand, thus making it a popular pilgrimage destination. It gets even more visits during the Buddhist holidays of both Visakha Bucha and Makha Bucha. This temple dates as far back as the 14th century and is based on a Thai myth which is full of both mystery and magic. Wat Phra That Doi Suthep temple is a sacred place among the Thai people, marked by seven-headed serpent statues that go up to the 306 stairs leading to the entrance of the complex. Once you get to the terrace of the Doi Suthep temple, you will love the jaw-dropping view over Chiang Mai from the top.
This inspiring temple is topped with a beautiful monument, which is known as a Chedi. This Chedi is 79 feet tall and completely gold-plated from top to bottom. These golden exteriors are unique for reflecting the sun and giving it a magnificent view on a clear day. At night, the bright golden colour is visible from the entire city below.
After lunch at a local restaurant, we explore the old city of Chiang Mai and visit another historical temple. Overnight at Chiang Mai.

Day 04 / Chiang Mai – Chiang Rai ( B, L )
After breakfast, you got the opportunity to visit an Elephant Sanctuary, where you will experience the elephants in their natural environment (optional excursion). After lunch, you proceed to Chiang Rai.
Overnight at Chiang Rai.

vDay 05 / Chiang Rai – Golden Triangle ( B, L )
After breakfast, we drive 60 km in northern direction and visit the Border town Mae Sai. This town is the top northern point of Thailand and well known for its border market, selling products from the neighbouring Myanmar (Burma) as well as from China. You will have time to walk over the bustling market and watch people from Burma, as well as the hill tribes, buying and selling products at Mae Sai.
A very attractive option for this morning is the “siamworld.com exclusive” trip along the Thai-Myanmar border, where we visit a Thai Army post with a fantastic view over Myanmar’s mountainous border region. We proceed to the coffee growing Akha villages, where you can try the excellent local grown Arabica coffee at small café’s with amazing view. The tour ends at Mae Sai.
Another interesting place to visit is the Tham Luang Cave, which became known worldwide during the dramatic cave rescue in 2018.
The Kuomintang (KMT) Chinese Village Mae Salong is also one of the most interesting places to visit in Chiang Rai Province. In the mountains west of Chiang Rai’s District Mae Chan, in the border area between Burma and Thailand, the Kuomintang (KMT) settlement Mae Salong is located at over 1,000 m above sea level. These ranges are often called “little Switzerland”. Deep Valleys and almost inaccessible, steep mountains have been the home of the KMT Army for over 60 years. By adding another day, we can include the visit to Mae Salong.
After lunch, we proceed to Chiang Saen, the heart of the Golden Triangle, where you take a long-tail boat ride across the Mekong River, drive along the Burmese side and visit a village at the Lao side. In the afternoon, return to Chiang Rai. Overnight.
