1. Tag: Bangkok – Pimai – Korat
From Bangkok, we drive in North to Saraburi and turn right onto the “Friendship Highway” to Muak Lek, where we stop at the local market. After lunch at Pak Chong we continue east to Pimai where we arrive in the afternoon, for the visit of the Khmer temple Prasart Hin Pimai, one of the most important Cambodian temples in today’s North East Thailand, build during the late 12th century under the great ruler of  Angor, King Jayavarman VII. It was build before the Angor Wat. Overnight at a city hotel in Korat. In the evening you can explore the city center, the night market and the statue of heroine Khunying Mo, at the Pratu Chumpon city gate.

2. Tag: Korat – Phrasart Phanom Rung – Sri Saket
After breakfast at the hotel you will visit the most impressing Khmer temple in Thailand, Khao Prasart Phanom Rung. The temple was build during the Angkor period in East Thailand, at the former Angkor-Pimai road on a 400 m high volcanic hill. The word “Phanom” or also “Phnom” means “Mountain” and describes the location of the temple, which dominates the eastern plain and offers a spectacular view over the surrounding land. The symmetric east-west alignment and the gates pointing to all 4 directions are typical for the Khmer style. The main axis is around 1/2 km long, a long alley leading up to the monument is reflecting the former influence and power of the Khmer Empire.  Later on lunch at a local restaurant, before we continue to Sri Saket, where we spend the night at a local middle class hotel.

3. Tag: Sri Saket – Khao Preah Viharn (Cambodia) – Khong Chiam
After breakfast we drive to the Cambodian border to get a “Border Pass” for visiting the historical temple Khao Preah Vihar. The walk to the top of the temple hill takes around 1 hour. The temple offers a fantastic view over the Cambodian plains.
Please note: The to constantly changing political policies, the temple might get closed to visitors on short notice, in this case we would arrange alternative sightseeing.

After lunch at a local restaurant we continue east to Ubon Ratchathani and arrive at the Torsang Resort at Khong Chiam, located directly at the banks of the Mekong River, opposite Laos.

4. Tag: Khong Chiam
